


About Prakruti Sirsi
“Prakruti” is a registered under societies Registration Act in Karnataka([R] no. 5:90-91) non-governmental organisation (NGO) established in 1992 after successfully launching the Chipko- Appiko movement in the Western Ghats of South India. Since then it has been helping local people to conserve the forests through various activities. The main objective of Prakruti is to work towards evolving an ecologically sound and sustainable development strategy in the tropical forest region of Western Ghats.
Objectives

To conserve the tropical forests of the Western Ghats of India in conjunction with local communities and with government agencies.

To reduce the pressure on forests for fuel wood.

To protect bio-diversity.

To document and disseminate traditional knowledge on natural resources and their governance.


Where we work
We work across Western Ghats, which is one of the eighteen bio-diversity hot spots of the world. We work with several forest dwelling communities like Halakki Vokkals ,Khare Vkkaligas, Kunabi, Marathi, Siddi and Gouli live in this region.
